How You May Feel

Witnessing a crime can be a traumatic experience. It may produce physical, emotional and psychological responses that you do not understand. It is important to know that everyone experiences the effects of crime differently and that every reaction is normal.

Help and Support is Available

It is important to look after yourself and to get help and support from friends, family or victim services. If you need information, support or referral, call VictimLink BC at 1-800-563-0808. Assistance is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How You May Feel After Witnessing a Crime

After you have witnessed a crime, you may experience a wide range of emotions. Everyone responds differently. Some feelings you may experience include:

  • shock;
  • fear;
  • stress or anxiety;
  • sadness or depression; or
  • anger.
