Your Rights
As a juror, you have certain legal rights. This section provides information to assist you with understanding your rights as a juror in B.C.
This section also guides you to other information and resources to help you access and learn more about your legal rights.
The provincial Jury Act sets out your rights as a person called for jury duty. These include:
- you have a right and duty to serve as a juror unless you are disqualified or exempt;
- you are entitled to a fee for each day that you serve on a jury trial; and
- you are entitled to an allowance for reasonable and necessary expenses for the time that you attend as a juror.
You do not need to be concerned about your name being made public because jurors' names are not published.
For information about your right to privacy, please see the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
