Probation Officers

Probation officers support the criminal justice system and offenders while they are serving all or part of their sentence in the community. For example, probation officers:

  • supervise court orders by monitoring offenders to verify they live up to the conditions of their court orders and returning them to court if they violate any conditions;
  • assess an offenders risk of re-offending and needs related to offending behaviour, linking both to a case management plan;
  • prepare reports and assessments about offenders and victims and provide sentencing options for the court;
  • deliver programs that address offenders’ risks and needs; and
  • continuously reassess offenders’ responses to programs, services, conditions and other interventions, adjusting case management plans in response to changing circumstances.
