Community Supervision
Many criminal sentences include court-ordered community supervision. Community supervision may be stand alone or follow a term of sentenced custody. B.C. Corrections provides supervision and support to these offenders.
Community supervision reduces re-offending by assessing and responding to risks and needs of adult offenders. This is done by:
- targeted case management of each individual under supervision;
- finding ways to change behaviour based on evidence about what works with offenders;
- co-ordinating services to support effective management of offenders; and
- responding to the needs of Aboriginal offenders.
The Community Corrections and Corporate Programs Division of B.C. Corrections manages court-ordered community supervision orders.
For information about the types of community sentences an offender might receive please see: Offender – Community Sentences.
