Correctional Centres

Provincial correctional centres provide secure custody of offenders and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce criminal behaviour. Provincial correctional centres throughout B.C. have different levels of security and control, depending on the seriousness of the crimes offenders have committed.

Provincial centres are for:

  • offenders serving sentences of less than two years;
  • offenders awaiting transfer to federal correctional centres;
  • accused waiting trial; or
  • individuals detained for immigration purposes.

Provincial correctional centres are the responsibility of the Adult Custody Division of B.C. Corrections.

For more information about federal correctional centres, see: Correctional Service of Canada.

For information about the types of in custody sentences an offender might receive please see Custody Sentences - Offender.
