Crime Prevention Week
Crime Prevention Week brings members of the community together to participate in events promoting and supporting crime prevention and safe neighbourhoods. It is an annual event that runs during the first week of November.
During Crime Prevention Week, the BC Crime Prevention Association organizes a conference where crime prevention professionals and community volunteers network, share best practices and participate in crime prevention workshops on a variety of topics. Past topics have included:
- bullying;
- dating and relationship violence;
- home security;
- identity theft;
- Internet safety skills; and
- preventing the abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults.
The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards ceremony is a highlight of Crime Prevention Week. The Ministry of Justice - in partnership with the BC Crime Prevention Association - presents these awards at the annual conference to recognize individuals and groups that have made outstanding contributions to crime prevention and community safety in British Columbia.
