Crime Awareness
Crime awareness involves knowing what is being done to help reduce and prevent crime in your community. When you know about the types of crimes taking place, where they often occur and environments that encourage crime, then you will be better prepared to protect yourself, your family and others in your neighbourhood.
You can find out about local crime issues affecting your community through your local police, the Ministry of Justice, your local media and by talking with other members of your community.
Many organizations, associations, community groups and government agencies have started projects to deal with citizen concerns about crime and safety. These programs aim to reduce the number of crimes taking place, prevent offenders from committing future crimes and promote the well-being of children and youth.
